1.What is the life of wallpaper?

The life of wallpaper generally depends on its maintenance which is around 8 to 10 years. The life of wallpaper also depends on climate changes as it can affect wallpaper’s durability. 

2.Does wallpaper require any maintenance?

Maintenance of Wallpaper & Wallcovering. Wallpapers installed on walls catch a lot of daily dirt and dust. Keeping your wallpaper clean is a key to maintaining its look, beauty and durability.  Cleaning wallpaper depends on the type of wallpaper that whether it is washable, non-washable or scrubbable.

3.Does wallpapers are washable?

Yes, Vinyl wallpaper is not difficult to clean. Coated fabric wallpaper is sometimes covered with an acrylic or vinyl covering that is easily washable. Plain paper wallpaper should not get wet. You can scrub vinyl wallpaper, but you need to make sure that you don't clean with anything abrasive.

4.Can wallpaper be installed on all walls?

Yes, Wallpaper Installation - Preparing Your Walls. Every great journey begins with one small step. And when it comes to hanging wallpaper, the first step is one of the most important. Wallpaper can't cling to greasy, dirty walls, old wallpaper or paint.

5.Can wallpaper be installed on painted walls?

Yes, wallpapers can be installed on painted walls also but are suggestible that the walls should not be oil painted walls.Be it luster, glossy, plastic or oil painted wall, wallpaper can be installed to any kind of painted wall. The wall needs to be primer coated before painted.

6.Can wallpapers be installed on plywood?

Yes, wallpapers can be installed on plywood but it can be installed only when it has wood primer.For wallpaper, you'll need to install liner paper, either with or without paste, before hanging the wallpaper itself.

7.Is painting compulsory on walls?

No, wallpapers are installed for having a better look for rooms, offices and it is suggested having wallpapers on rooms, or offices places a good impact on the viewer.

8.How much wastage will be there during wallpaper installation?

Well, the amount of wastage will depend on the wall type that whether it is a plain or partitioned wall. The approximate wastage during wallpaper installation will be around 5 to 10% depending on the wall type.Usually wallpaper comes in double rolls, this saves on waste. Do not discard leftover wallpaper, you never know if your installed wallpaper will become damaged, and need.

9.How wide are the wallpaper strips?

Our wallpaper strips come in 45cm wide drops. This is slightly wider than normal wallpaper which makes the hanging process quicker and gives a better final finish. 

10.What do I do if I have a sloping wall or a wall that isn’t square or rectangle?

If your wall is an unusual shape then this is not a problem. You simply need to measure the widest and tallest part of your wall to get the height and width. When you come to hang the wallpaper, you simply need to trim away the excess paper. You can see a diagram of how to measure various kinds of walls here

11.Do I really need to prime the wall before I wallpaper?

Yes, we do recommend priming the wall first. Sometimes referred to as the old fashioned process of "sizing", priming is an important part of the wallpapering process. Primer makes an ideal and uniform surface for your wallpaper to stick to, and is also an important part of making the wallpaper removal process easier. Priming the wall properly will also help in the removal of the wallpaper when it's time to update your room with a fresh new wallpaper. 

12.Can I wallpaper over wallpaper?

We do not recommend hanging new wallpaper over existing wallpaper. The tension exerted by the new layer on the old can cause the original bond to fail and the paper could come off the wall, or bubble dramatically. Learn how to remove old wallpaper from walls. 

Wooden Flooring FAQ's

1.What is solid wood flooring?

Solid wood flooring is made from continuous planks of wood, whereas engineered wood flooring is made with several plies of wood compressed together. 

2.Where can I install solid wood flooring?

Solid wood should not be installed in basements where water is an issue, because water can cause expansion and contraction of the wood, causing it to warp. As such, it is ideal for above ground installations in rooms other than the bathrooms in a home. 

3.Which installation method is best?

The best installation method depends on the type of wood flooring, the installation location in the home, and the type of subfloor. Installation options include: nail down, glue down, and floating. Solid floors can be nailed down. Laminate floors can be glued down. Floating involves attaching the wood floor to an underlay, rather than removing it and attaching it to the actual subfloor. 

4.How can I clean and care for my wood floor?

Sweep dirt away from the floor with a soft cloth broom. Use cleaning and polishing products specially designed for the clean and care of wood floors. Do not use water to clean the wood floor. 

5.Are wood floors easy to care for?

Yes. In fact, wood floors are just as easy to care for as any other floor covering material. Normal care such as sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt and soil is generally all that is required. For specific care instructions, please refer to Care and Maintenance.  

6.Can solid wood be installed on stairs?

It is possible, but it can be slippery. We advise you consider your personal circumstances before making a decision. If there are children or pets in the home, it may not be a good choice. 

7.How do I know when it’s time to refinish my floors?

Dull patches, cracks, deep scratches, and staining are all signs your floors need refinishing. Depending on the level of traffic to the area, plan to refinish floors every 3 to 4 years. 

8.Can I install my new flooring myself?

There are any number of DIY projects around the home, but hardwood floor installation should be left to professionals with the right tools, experience, and knowledge. 

9.What is the difference between solid and engineered wood flooring?

Solid wood flooring is from a single slab of wood, can be sanded and refinished multiple times, and is more prone to expansion, shrinkage, or warping. Engineered wood flooring has a solid core with a layer of hardwood veneer on top, making it more resistant to heat and humidity. 

10.Can I install hardwood flooring in my kitchen or bathrooms?

Yes! Because of moisture concerns in both of these rooms, engineered hardwood is preferable to solid wood, as it is more flexible with varying temperatures and humidity levels. Hardwoods are able to withstand the heavy traffic in your kitchen, such as oak or mahogany, and in the bathroom, special finishes can be applied to protect floors from water damage. 

11.How do I maintain my hardwood floors?

Keep floors looking new with regular cleaning with a soft bristled vacuum brush or broom. Wash floors weekly with a damp, never wet, mop, using plain water or a specialized hardwood floor cleaner and wipe up spills immediately. 

12.What should I do if I have water damage?

Whether due to humidity, spills, or leaks, water damage is detrimental to wood flooring. Time is of the essence, so clean spills as you go, and call an expert if floors are cupping, warping, or there is major spillage or flooding.

2.Are your blinds child-safe?

All of our blinds are manufactured to meet current standards and we continuously develop products to ensure that they’re as safe as possible. 

3.How do I clean my blinds?

Depending on the product you have chosen cleaning you blinds is simple and easy. A feather duster or a soft cloth will work well for dust and light dirt. It is okay to use a lightly moistened cloth to clean your blinds also. 

4.What are the most energy efficient blinds?

While all blinds and window coverings provide some insulation when closed, by for the best insulation value is from our cellular honeycomb shades.
Honeycomb shades increase the R-value of your windows by “trapping” air in the individual cells. This trapped air helps keeps the heat or cold out depending on the time of year. 

5.Do you sell waterproof blinds?

All of our Venetian blinds are made from aluminium which is wipe clean and not easily stained making them perfect for kitchens and bathrooms where splashes and steam are most likely! Our range of roller blinds is also made from wipe-clean material, helping you to keep your blinds looking fresh, clean and tidy. 

6. How much are your blinds?

Each and every single one of our blinds is made to measure so all of our pricing is based on your measurements so we will need this information before we can provide an accurate figure. However, with our lowest price guarantee, if you can find an equivalent product elsewhere at a lower price, we’ll match it. 

7.Can I change the control side on my roller blind?

Sure, no problem at all. Simply remove the blind from its brackets if it is already installed, pull the entire control mechanism out of one side of the roller blind tube, pull the entire pin out of the opposite end & then reinsert them in the opposite ends. Your brackets may only marry to one of the ends, so if you've already fitted your blind you may need to swap the brackets to the opposite ends too. 

8.Can you recommend the best type of blind/window covering for me?

1.Can you install luxury vinyl flooring outdoors?

Even if using waterproof vinyl flooring, we do not recommend vinyl flooring for outside or semi-outside areas. UV rays can cause fading and continuous weather can damage the flooring over time. Using vinyl flooring outside may also void the manufacturer warranty! For these reasons, stick to using vinyl flooring indoors. 

2.Why use vinyl flooring?

There are three essential features of vinyl flooring that make it stand out as one of the premier materials for homeowners. First, there are many types of patterns luxury vinyl flooring can come in that will replicate a certain look or ambiance you’re trying to obtain through your floor. For instance, vinyl flooring can display wood, stone or ceramic appearances. Different features will raise and lower the price point. Basically, there’s a lot of choices out there when it comes to vinyl 

5.Any disadvantages to vinyl flooring?

In terms of adding value to your house, vinyl flooring doesn’t add up quite like more natural surfaces such as wood or stone. While vinyl flooring is also noted for its durability, in the event that it does get scratched, it can occasionally be difficult to fully repair, or uninstall entirely. Try to avoid installing vinyl flooring in rooms with heavy sunlight, because repeated exposure over time may cause the finish to fade. 

6.Can I put heavy appliances down directly on my vinyl floors?

You can! For furniture, we recommend that you use felt furniture pads under legs to prevent scratching the flooring surface. Never use rubber, as rubber can stain vinyl flooring.

For heavy furniture and appliances, use a non-staining large surface floor protector. You can also put most vinyl flooring under kitchen cabinets and appliances, but it’s a good idea to glue down those section.

7.Is vinyl good for households with children and pets?

Vinyl is an excellent choice for homes with pets and children because it is so easy to clean and resists stains. It will hold up in muddy entryways and in kitchens where frequent messes occur. It requires little care once it’s installed, making it a forgiving floor that’s easy to live with. Vinyl is also relatively soft and sound absorbent, providing a comfortable surface for playing and helping to quiet the chaos in your home.

 

8.Where can vinyl floor be installed?

You can install vinyl anywhere in your home because of its superior water resistance and durable construction. It is suitable for kitchens, baths, entryways, basements, mudrooms, laundry rooms and more.

9.Can I direct stick my Vinyl Plank flooring?

All Vinyl planks can be adhered to the subfloor, although some products are designed specifically for this purpose. Floating systems are generally 4mm or 5mm thick. Design Walls First provide installation guidelines for all of our flooring products including Vinyl Plank. 

10.How hard is Vinyl Plank flooring?

Vinyl Plank is very hard wearing and in terms of other flooring types is harder than timber but not as hard as laminate. 

11. Can laminate flooring be installed on stairs?

Yes, laminate flooring can be installed on stairs. The planks should be glued down with construction adhesive and a stair nose transition used. The stair nose should also be glued and nailed to the subfloor to ensure stability of the installation. 

12.How durable are laminate floors?

Laminate flooring is long-lasting and highly durable. The surface is made with aluminum oxide which is one of the hardest substances on earth and provides a very robust and wear resistant surface relative to other types of flooring. The core is made out of high density fiberboard that makes laminate flooring highly dent resistant. However, they are not indestructible; care should be taken to help avoid scratching and damage. With a small amount of maintenance, laminate floors will last a very long time.
